Nov. the 2nd, 1859 Denton, Denton Co. Texas Dear sister and Brotherinlaw I wrote you a few days ago we were going to stay here for a year at any rate I wrote you of fathers death and our troubles on the trip we had very bad luck we lost almost everything coming out here we only got in with one wagon part of our cattle died and the rest we traded just for what we could and that was very little after Pa died old Tom left us but it wasn't much loss for he was the laziest man that I ever saw he done very well as far as Iowa and after that he was no account we were out ten weeks from Iowa here and the hardest time I expect to have but I think if we had all kept well it would have been a pleasant time but think of my feeling when father was a corpse and Mother and Tarlton so low that they didn't know anything of it and not a woman to come in to see me and the night after Father was buried I watched with mother all night for George went about 15 miles after a half Indian doctor for the one that was with us give her up but we didn't for he was sick and it was just coming up a storm and I think we had as hard a storm that night as I ever saw you may know how much account Tom was to us when he went to the wagon and left me in the tent that night with Ma and Tarleton and the doctor was so sick then that he could not sit up that was on Thursday night and he only lived till the next Monday this is very pretty country here but not what we call good watered country at all Mother is not well yet is still on the mend and I hope will soon be well write often to us and tell us when you heard from the boys and write to them as soon as you get this for fear you haven't got my other letter I will tell you when Father died and I want you to have it put in the Herald he died on 28th of September on Horse Creek Cherokee nation Indian territory write often and send our letters to Denton Denton Co.
